Never go behind success but excellence......u will find success following u ultimately.....
Its a third year engineering student from India writing this blog.....I from my 3 yrs experience of engineering studies(though small) will share with u some of my humble ideas regarding how to study this major, tips and about some current affairs going around the field....U can also share ur ideas and opinions through this blog....

ENJOY STUDYING ENGINEERING........

Engineers make up the modern world. To get a better world to live in we need innovations. So engineers who come out every year round the world should not just be well trained techies knowing to do whatever the organization for which they are working for trains them for but they should be able to bring out new ideas and thoughts. This would benefit not only the organization but also himself in building up an enjoyable career. He feels as if he is working for himself and not as a worker just finishing the job for the sake of pay.

The first and foremost thing that a student must understand is "Never study for exams, study for yourself, study to excel rather than scoring a 90% by mere memorization". Even if u score a 60% but u have the confidence that whatever u have studied is by proper technique and is well versed about the FUNDAMENTALS,its many times better than a 90% that u have obtained through an exam oriented study.Ur confidence will be so high that u will be ready to face any exam or interview by reputed firms. All of the top firms give priority to this factor than academic record(which also by the way should not be left behind). A high GPA is easy to obtain if have spent enough time in strengthening the fundamentals of each topic,so that the rest can be easily built up using these fundamentals. If u are so particular about the GPA,as the exam approaches try to look up previous question papers and practice these applying the fundamental concepts.U fill find yourself with a shining GPA.

I think the exam oriented studies is increasing now a days( at least in my country India), mainly because of the students feeling of security that if they just pass the exams they will easily get absorbed in some IT outsourcing companies which recrute in mass numbers from technical campuses every year here.In these companies students work in entirely different field than what they have studied. Its okay if u r interested but many works just for the sake of pay,and the mental tensions one has to face working in this field without interest is very high.

So excel in whatever engineering major u r studying.Master the concepts.Strengthen your fundas. You will find success coming after u eventually.

HOW TO STUDY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING........

Electrical engineering is often regarded as the toughest branch in engineering. Its mostly because of the fact that physical view most the things we are dealing with here are difficult to perceive.

But achieving this difficult task is what which makes the difference.

The entire syllabus covers a lot of formulas.Just memorizing these and having a mathematical approach to the branch is okay. But instead of memorizing if u try to give a physical meaning to these it becomes interesting,u get the real concept and u need not do lot of strain in memorizing and concepts helps in long term memory.

A simple example is, RESISTANCE=RESISTIVITY*(LENGTH /AREA)

U try to visualize what is resistance,it is the resistance to flow of  electrons in a conductor. If length is more larger is the number of collisions since electrons travel in a zigzag manner hence resistance is more.Similarly think about area, larger area probability of collision lesser.Resistivity is a material property and indicates non availability of free electrons, hence is directly linked with resistance.

Understanding this way is much more interesting and easier than simple memorization of formulas. It helps u to go deeper into the subject.

However as we move on we come across a lot of differential calculus, trigonometry etc and  physical conceptualization of these requires a lot of brain work.U starts thinking and searching for proofs ,it is the very essence of studying engineering.

U keeps on asking WHY HOW WHY.Yes it should be the chantings of an engineer.
